Book Reviews

If you are interested in reviewing a book for Mosaic, please note the following:

General

• Mosaic does not accept unsolicited book reviews. More information on becoming a reviewer can be found below.
• Mosaic staff will supply reviewers with a digital copy of the book and will do our best to have a physical copy of the book mailed to the reviewer.
• Potential reviewers must declare any conflicts of interest.

Style and Structure

Book reviews should be between 1500-2000 words and provide a balanced and critical evaluation of the book’s contents, approach, and significance. We ask reviewers to please:

• follow Mosaic’s article guidelines for style and structure, when applicable;
• inform Mosaic staff if unable to make the deadline agreed to; and
• open with a citation of the book being reviewed, following Mosaic’s essay style guidelines. For example:
  
  Cavarero, Adriana. Relating Narrative: Storytelling and Selfhood. Translated by Paul A. Kottman, Routledge, 2000. Pp. 184. ISBN 9780415200585 (paperback) $64.79.

Evaluation Process

Book reviews submitted to Mosaic are not subject to blind peer review. Publication of reviews, however, are subject to Editor’s approval.

Instructions for Potential Reviewers

Anyone interested in reviewing for Mosaic should send the following to mosaic@umanitoba.ca:

• a current CV, including academic qualifications and research interests;
• a 500-word sample of your writing (or a sample review); and
• a brief statement of interest outlining the kinds of books you are interested in reviewing.
